Just recently, we participated in a competition organized by Evangel Family Church in line with Singapore’s National Day 2011. Mechanics include uploading a captioned photo and a video with the theme “We are Singaporeans” on Evangel’s Facebook page. Submission of entries closed at 12 midnight yesterday. Winners will be announced on Sunday.
Earlier that morning my brother and I got up earlier than the usual Sunday mornings to videoshoot. We didn’t go far; just the nearby community central and the neighboring town to see what we can capture from the heartlands. It was a very candid and time-limited “filming” (so to speak) because we need to quickly head back home and prepare for church.
Church.
After church and after lunch, Jane and I start setting-up for our photo entry. Once we got the perfect shot, we started the painstaking task of video editing and uploaded the two requirements still hot off the grill. We finished our video entry past 9 pm already.
Here are our official entries. The captioned photo: We ♥ SG!
Aren’t you amused with how most Singaporeans hang their clothes to dry? It’s ingenuity at its finest! Because of lack of space, they devised a way to make things work for them. And it’s a green thing! My wife, who has been here for almost five years already, can do the “pole hanging thing” almost effortlessly. The photo concept was from her. And FYI, this not photoshopped, no cropping even. The wordings are hand-painted on white paper, then carefully cut and pasted onto the shirts.
And our video entry: We are Singaporeans
Here, we debut as director, cameraman, and editor. That’s mine, my brother’s, and my wife’s respective roles. They say you will know who you really are through other people’s view of you. This is my perspective of Singapore presented in a 30-second clip. Sit back and enjoy!
Looking forward to Red Dot Sunday! Until then.
