Radio Flyer

It was our birthday present for her when she turned two but its wheels only touched the "real road" a year after. Thanks to Jane who braced the carrying of our daughter, the heavy steel trike and the camera for this biking expedition.

Ashrie had a blast, as you can see in the following photos.

 Ciao!

First of Firsts

It’s our first movie date as a family. It is Ashrie’s first time in a cinema. And it’s our first time (my wife and I) in the cinemas for more than three years!

Whew! We’re so glad that Ashrie finished the movie and sooo happy we already broke the movie fast!

By the way, here’s a trailer of what we watch.

A Case of Mistaken Identity

A few days after blogging about Ashrie’s Little Tikes, Huggies Singapore posted this on their Facebook page wall yesterday.
Although written with good intentions, they have misinterpreted my name for a woman’s. Well, it's not the first time that it happened especially here in Singapore.
That's why whenever I write an email to parties who really don’t know me, I placed a (Mr.) at the end of my name. I guess many used to think of the name, Esther when they hear my name for the first time. And I believed some who could not pronounce my name call me by that.

So where in the world did I got that name? Well, it’s a common practice in the Philippines, especially for the 70’s or 80’s parents or maybe until now, to name their kids with their combined first names.

Here is how it works. My Dad’s name is Edgardo, (nickname: Edy) my Mom’s name is Estrella (Esther).
So, Edy + Esther = Edsther!
But they still called me a happy mum!!! :-[

96-Hour Crazy Toy Sale

Early Learning Curve (ELC) Singapore is having a 4-day storewide sale starting tomorrow. I just wonder if they would really not close for four days as their title suggest. Anyway, if you are on a hunt for high-quality toys, this is a nice deal.

Happy Shopping!

A Poem For Ashrie

Daddy's Little Girl!

Sometimes I forget that you are only three
And I would tell you to always speak gently
‘Cause when you talk you're loud, when you cry it’s louder
But I have no idea, what I’m like when I’m a toddler

You would run and not walk
You would hop and hop with glee
You would sing self-composed songs
You would jump from bed to me

I would say "Be careful"
Do this, or do this not
Or I would say be "Be quiet"
But you would simply not

Sometimes you'd say you're a princess
A pretty one, that’s a fact
Or most of the time a ballerina
Which I think you'll be good at

You tell me what I taught you
To do this, or do this not
I will just be silent
Knowing that you are right

Oh little one, how precious
These moments are to me
The funny times, those crazy times
Remembrance I guarantee

From now on I'll remember
You're just being true
But understand that as a Dad
I'm just as old as you

So wear that tutu everyday
Ask me to dance with you
Fancy yourself with beads and ribbons
Tell me to carry you

Just don't grow too fast my darling
That's my request to you
Daddy's little girl you'll forever be
Deep in my heart that's true

A Balloon for Isabel

Here’s a good read that we discovered during last night’s bedtime story. It’s actually a 2010 Smithsonian notable book written by Deborah Underwood and illustrated by Laura Rankin. The book, A Balloon for Isabel.

It’s an exciting book from start to finish. I tells of the story of Isabel, a determined porcupine whose only desperate desire is to have a balloon on Graduation Day. She’s tired of the bookmarks porcupines have been receiving during special occasions while all the others play with their bright, bouncy, helium-filled toy.

Her "No Fair!" statement is right but what can a small, pocupine school girl do with the school's no-balloons-for-porcupines rule?

Will her persistence lead to success? Her creative solution will amuse everyone!

A ★★★★★ rating from Me&MyGirls. I pray that Ashrie would grow up not compromising with the prejudices of this world but to live her life enjoying her rights, not to accept NO's when she truly believed in her heart that it should be YES!

Yes, just like Isabel.
